Luckily enough, my post-grad work has allowed me to completely ignore the concept of “Casual Fridays”. But boy, do I remember those corporate intern days of repeating the same few pairs of black slacks Monday through Thursday, feeling elated as Friday finally allowed me to be a normal human being again. Therefore, in honor of all my friends out there forced to follow a strict office dress code, I decided to share my version of wearing denim on Friday.
A while ago I came across this great H&M denim button-down that I can wear in so many ways. It’s great for layering, in the summer, it can be worn when it’s a little chilly out and of course there’s always the option of buttoning it and wearing it as a shirt. However, the only problem was, that when I wore it alone I always felt like I couldn’t wear blue jeans. There was just way too much denim going on for me.
So, by mixing in some bold pieces of different fabrics and colors, I was able to break up the monotony some and make this a much more interesting outfit. The wool cape is not only great for this season, but the open neck and revealed arms allow a peak of the denim shirt. Since I was working with all neutrals, it was easy to throw on this black hat to match a black pair of my favorite heels. This added an element of femininity below the waist to balance to the looser fitting boyfriend jean. By paying attention to the details and experimenting with pieces, Fridays don’t look lazy, just casual and fun–as they should be!
