Marc Jacobs Fur Varsity

NYC weather is ridiculously cold at the moment! I’m sure everyone was happy for the long weekend, but this weather kills. However, one positive about these nearly negative temps is the ability to layer without burning up; which is why I was very excited to find this Marc Jacobs faux fur varsity jacket to add some additional warmth under my true coat.

The big metallics around the neckline display the signature symbols and make the need for additional accessories minimal–which I don’t tend to wear too much of anyway. I just wore my favorite Michael Kors gold bracelet and I was good to go. I really, really hate the cold. But good clothes can help put anyone in better spirits.

Ticking Time Bomb

One of the best things ever is when you put together something simple and comfortable and it still comes out looking cool. I just recently got into bomber jackets, and admittedly, hate I didn’t jump onto this trend sooner. These warm and cozy jackets add some edge to any outfit they’re paired with. And especially considering my love for all black, I have something I can throw on to make things look a little more interesting.

I used some new shades from Aldo as my pop of color. One, I think they look great and two, the reflected lenses can serve as both a mirror or block from having to look anyone in the eyes. This is a pretty basic look, but is one of my everyday favorites.

Denim Friday

Luckily enough, my post-grad work has allowed me to completely ignore the concept of “Casual Fridays”. But boy, do I remember those corporate intern days of repeating the same few pairs of black slacks Monday through Thursday, feeling elated as Friday finally allowed me to be a normal human being again. Therefore, in honor of all my friends out there forced to follow a strict office dress code, I decided to share my version of wearing denim on Friday.

A while ago I came across this great H&M denim button-down that I can wear in so many ways. It’s great for layering, in the summer, it can be worn when it’s a little chilly out and of course there’s always the option of buttoning it and wearing it as a shirt. However, the only problem was, that when I wore it alone I always felt like I couldn’t wear blue jeans. There was just way too much denim going on for me.

So, by mixing in some bold pieces of different fabrics and colors, I was able to break up the monotony some and make this a much more interesting outfit. The wool cape is not only great for this season, but the open neck and revealed arms allow a peak of the denim shirt. Since I was working with all neutrals, it was easy to throw on this black hat to match a black pair of my favorite heels. This added an element of femininity below the waist to balance to the looser fitting boyfriend jean. By paying attention to the details and experimenting with pieces, Fridays don’t look lazy, just casual and fun–as they should be!
