The Summer Heat

Hey everyone–summer is here and I hope you are ready for me to get back to pumping out these posts! This month is very special for me, as it marks one year since my move to NYC. Aside from digesting the fact that I’ve been out of school for a whole year already, I honestly can’t believe the progress I’ve made in working towards some of the things I was saying ten years ago I wanted to one day do.

I came to the city to pursue work in the entertainment industry (a broad term, I know). And after a year of working, I’ve realized there are still so many areas within this whirlwind field that I have interest in. However, as I take the time to search for my “meant to be” path I want to enjoy the simple blessing of being here, surrounded by a sea of talent.

Speaking of which, part of why this summer is going to be great is because I’m beyond excited to be working with photographer Denisse Benitez. Let me tell you, this girl is amazing! She even has one of the coolest names on IG: @Thugnanny_.

When I got lucky with this jumper from H&M, I knew I wanted to have Denisse help me share it with you all. I was making a quick run to the store when I passed this outfit on the mannequin. I spent literally 15 minutes going through racks to look for it and to my surprise, hidden in a corner, was one lonely jumper conveniently in my size.

I’m a big fan of white and blue. The nautical look always gives off summer vibes. This outfit became even better when I paired it with these cheap, but flashy, shades I found at Aldo (fyi–they always have a 2 for $20 deal). This cat-like style is going to be popping up a lot this season. I’ve already seen so many brands with it.

This is just the beginning of one of the year’s best seasons. Let’s all do awesome things and find happiness doing them. I’m going to have an outfit post for you all every Monday; so now that there’s a schedule, be on the lookout!

And for all that time in between, make sure to follow me on Instagram @christinawestley.

BOSTON//PRIVATE SCHOOLS & PONCHOS

This weekend I escaped busy NYC momentarily to take a quick trip to Boston. I had been once before, but with no agenda this time it was great just exploring the city and taking a moment to relax. From roaming Central Square to indulging in some dangerous chicken and waffles at Back Bay Social Club, turning down the pace of life a few notches for a couple of days was just what I needed.

With spring finally here I’m getting to leave the heavy jackets at home and opt for some light layering in my style picks. During a morning on Harvard’s campus, I wore this tan cardigan with great draping detail. On top I added this cool poncho, which as an bonus had deep pockets to store everything I needed to carry for the day. Despite the slight breeze, the poncho was heavy enough to keep me warm and not to mention, looked cool blowing in the wind.

BOSTON//FIGHT NIGHT

All we’ve been hearing about lately is the big Mayweather fight, and finally last night it happened. Now I’m not big into sports (and admittedly can’t watch a fight without getting a little squeamish), but all this boxing talk helped inspire the fight night look I shot while visiting Boston. These floral shorts from Adidas caught my eye and from there I built a combo that knocks normal sportswear out the ring.

Sure, a bandage top, long blazer and booties aren’t your first thought with athletic shorts. But, it sure is a lot more fun than a hoodie! Plus, a funky outfit is the perfect match to some cool nail art.
